🎓 Penny Wise: Bitcoin Ordinals
Hi, I'm Penny Wise 👋
Today, we're diving into the controversies around Bitcoin Ordinals! 🎨
📈 Trending Topics in the News
The Scoop🕵️♂️: ✉️ Bitcoin Maxis (Maximalists) are mucho angry about “Ordinals”🎨 because they are creating increased competition for block space resulting in high transactions fees.
The bitcoin network 🌐 allows for the inscription of images 🖼️ and data 📊 to be stored on it. In fact, the Genesis Block 🚀, which was the first bitcoin block to be mined, contains an inscription. Bitcoiner Casey Rodamor created a methodology in 2023 🔍, which allows you to assign a specific satoshi 💰 in the transaction to a given inscription. This is a methodology and you do not necessarily need to agree with it 🤔, but many people do, and their view is that the Bitcoin blockchain can now be used in much the same way as Ethereum 🌐 was used for assigning ownership of a digital artefact 🎨, with the distinction that the image can be inscribed onto the actual blockchain, rather than the location merely being referenced on the transaction. This means that the image will live on-chain in perpetuity 🌟 without being deleted or becoming inaccessible when its storage location is taken off-line.
In addition an anonymous user “Domo” created a new token standard “BRC-20” that allows for the creation of fungible tokens via the ordinals protocol. The increased usage of this token standard has exacerbated the problem of block space clog significantly.
Why you should care🚨: Increased Bitcoin fees mean that transacting on-chain has become prohibitive for many, particularly in developing countries. However, if you are a miner its pay-day 🤑 with the average price of a bitcoin transaction hitting $37 and the share prices of Bitcoin mining companies increasing.
🧐 Decide for yourself whether you think Ordinals are a good thing, or not.

The Scoop🕵️♂️: In case you were still operating under the illusion that criminals are brought to justice, or that the government was not engaging in corruption in plain site, it was recently announced that charges against SBF for making unlawful political donations would be dropped.
Why you should care🚨: 💸 SBF was the second biggest donor to the US Democratic Party, after George Soros, and allegedly made secret donations to Republicans as well. That the DOJ (ergo the US Govt) would decide not to prosecute him for these alleged crimes, makes a big stink, and likely means that remaining donations will not be clawed back, resulting in reduced compensation for the victims of his alleged fraud.
💼 Women in Business
Over the course of 2023 we interviewed 40+ women in the Bitcoin industry who are building companies in the energy, payments, mining space and more, as well as educating others about Bitcoin and its powerful humanitarian applications. We celebrate them with this end of year video, and suggest that you give all of them a follow on X/Twitter here.
